Telluride Regional Medical Center: Update on Proposed Mountain Village Site
This communication provides a quick rundown of activities over the last few weeks regarding the proposed Mountain Village medical facility.
On July 19 representatives from the Environmental Protection Agency and the Army Corps of Engineers visited the Mountain Village hospital site to inspect the wetlands (the Town of Mountain Village has applied to the Corps for a permit to allow construction on the wetlands). Here are maps of the proposed hospital site. The agencies also inspected the mitigation site where, if construction of the hospital occurs, new wetlands will be constructed. Federal law requires that if wetlands are destroyed they be replaced – usually on a 2-1 or 3-1 or more basis as required mitigation. The Town of Mountain Village has submitted a mitigation plan to the Corps. At this time, the plan has not been made public.
It is our understanding the EPA and the Corps will provide comments to the Town of Mountain Village regarding their July 19 site visit as part of the permit review process.
TMVOA has been communicating with John Gardner, chief executive officer of the Telluride Regional Medical Center. At TMVOA’s request, Mr. Gardner said he would hold a number of informal meetings in Mountain Village to answer questions from the public. We will inform you as to these meeting dates as soon as they are confirmed.
In the meantime, Mr. Gardner has offered to answer any questions our members have. Therefore, please send me any questions you have about the new medical facility and we will get them answered for you.
Anton Benitez, Executive Director
Telluride Mountain Village Owners Association
