Design Review Board Has Work Session to Discuss Evolving Architecture
At a Special Meeting held Oct. 18, the Mountain Village DRB discussed the fact that architecture is evolving and how Mountain Village’s regulations should reflect this evolution. Discussion focused primarily on:
· Thick and Heavy Base – Current code requires a base of stone or timbers for a heavy/grounded appearance. Discussion of potentially easing this requirement. Maintaining current 35% stone coverage requirement, but allow for some flexibility for lighter, more airy design.
· Roof Design – Removing gables as the primary design feature and changing language to allow a variety of sloped elements
· Roof Material – Allowing synthetic replacement options for older wood shake shingles
· Glazing – Maintaining current code of 40% maximum of window area, but possibly relaxing the requirements for the size of a single pane
This was a work session only and no action was taken. The DRB is scheduled to continue this discussion at a Special Meeting on Nov. 7 at 10 a.m.
